Why a Contiki Tour is the Best Introduction to Solo Travel

Thinking about travelling but not sure where to start? Maybe you don’t have a friend or partner to go with, or the thought of planning every little detail feels overwhelming. That’s exactly why Contiki tours are such a great option - especially if you’re aged 18–35 and dreaming of seeing the world.

I’ve done two Contiki trips myself (a decade ago now, but they’re still some of my favourite memories!) and I can honestly say they were the perfect introduction to solo travel.

You’ll Never Really Be Alone

The best part - you don’t need to wait for someone else to come with you. Contiki attracts solo travellers from all around the world, so right from day one you’re surrounded by people in the exact same boat. It’s such an easy way to make friends - and trust me, you’ll come home with lifelong connections. I still keep in touch with the Contiki girls I met all those years ago! I even have friends who met their future husband or wife on a Contiki.

Stress-Free Travel

Contiki takes care of the tricky stuff - hotels, transport, timings, and must-see highlights - so all you have to do is show up with an open mind, a heart of adventure and enjoy it! Everything runs smoothly and on time, which means more time for fun and sightseeing and less time stressing about logistics.

Plus, the guides are incredible - fun, knowledgeable, and always ready to help. They know the best local spots, the hidden gems, and how to make the trip unforgettable.

My Contiki Story

My first Contiki was a week-long trip from London to Paris, then down through the south of France, across to northern Spain, and finishing in Barcelona. It was such a stunning introduction to new places I hadn't yet been - the epic history, beaches, nightlife, and culture all packed into one week. I even stayed on in Barcelona for a few days by myself afterwards, feeling so much more confident to travel independently.

Not long after, I joined another Contiki - this time a cruise through the Greek and Turkish islands. It was incredible: turquoise waters, sunsets on deck, and exploring ancient ruins by day. And the best part was the friendships. More than ten years later, I still talk to the girls I shared a cabin with.

Why You Should Book One

If you’re 18-35 and want to travel but don’t know where to start, a Contiki tour is the perfect first step. You’ll explore new countries with a ready-made group of friends, learn the ropes of travelling, and build the confidence to keep exploring - whether that’s on another Contiki or by yourself.

Maybe you’ve always dreamed of going to Europe and visiting London, Paris, and Rome. Or perhaps it’s South East Asia on your bucket list, but the thought of somewhere so different by yourself - with such big, overwhelming cities - feels a little scary. Maybe it’s Canada, Egypt, or Australia. The best part is Contiki goes pretty much everywhere in the world, so whatever’s on your dream list, there’s a tour waiting for you.

So if travel has been on your mind, don’t wait for the “right time” or the “right person” to go with. Book a Contiki, jump in, and let the adventure (and friendships) begin.
