Melbourne: Street Art and Graffiti Chronicles

The second most populous urban area in Australia, Melbourne is an incredibly cool cosmopolitan city. It is a melting pot of cultures, has a vibrant cafe and food scene, grand architecture of old and new and has a strong sporting, university and arts culture.

Melbourne is very well-known for its laneways full of impressive street art and graffiti. While some may not appreciate it as art, I think these artists are incredibly talented and many pieces tell a story or message.

I thoroughly enjoyed wandering the streets and stumbling upon alley after alleyway of colourful and interesting works of art.

Below is a collection of my favourites, found mostly around Hosier Lane, Acdc Lane, Market Lane, Stevenson Lane and Duckboard Place.

Do you like street art and do you know of any other cool cities around the world that also shares a passion for it?

Happy Travels,

Whoa, that is one colorful city! I love how knitting has become a form of street art- yarn "bombs" are popping up everywhere! Time to go walk around San Diego and see what kind of art I can find.

Doesn't Melbourne just have the most wonderful street art? I lived there for a few years and I loved walking around and taking notice of the beautiful artwork - especially Hosier Lane which was always changing!

That looks like some pretty incredible street art that they did there. I am just amazed by the amount of street art and what they can do with it. All the beautiful blends of colors and art on the buildings is so unique.

What amazing artists. Obviously there's a lot of graffiti in Los Angeles where I live. But it's of a different flavor. I'm intrigued with the prevalence of animals i the art you've shown. Thanks for sharing!
